Kai Murphy is an educator and a mother. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. She has taught students from 3-11 in day care and public school for 15 years. Kai holds a bachelors degree in Psychology (Major) and Education (Minor) from CUNY York College. She also holds a Masters degree in Education from Hunter College.
Kai's motto is "Be the person who touches the lives and hearts of people. Be a positive light to others as you put a smile on their faces. For in the end...it's not what you say that matters, it's how you make them feel that lovingly stays in their memory". (Anonymous)
Taylonn Murphy is a leader of grassroots non-violence initiatives and youth empowering programs. Taylonn Murphy graduated from August Martin High School. He is a community organizer/activist and the spokesperson for the Tayshana “Chicken” Murphy Foundation, which he founded to honor his daughter; has worked intensely on providing alternatives to youth violence throughout New York City; and has counseled parents and families that have lost loved ones to violence. Immediately after Tayshana’s death, Taylonn traveled to many U.S. cities to speak out against senseless violence. He also embraced the mother of one of the young men who was convicted of killing his daughter (Arnita Brockington), and created “Both Sides of the Gun,” to help teach youth the consequences of making bad choices.
Desiree Waters is a Staff Representative at Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1180. She attended Borough of Manhattan Community College.
